Heroball is a 2008 American animated science fiction sports action film produced by TjsWorld2011 Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies for Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks Pictures. It was the eighth feature film from TW2011 Pictures, as well as DreamWorks' first animated film without its former animation division DreamWorks Animation, which was spun off into a separate public company in 2004. The film takes place in the year 2245, where all major sporting activities have been eliminated in favor of Heroball, an activity akin to paintball that is claimed by The World District to be utterly flawless. However, a teenage athlete of this game named Zack Evans (Nathan Kress) discovers a loophole in its mechanics. He and his friends Amanda West (Cathy Cavadini) and Pat Stevens (Michael Kastek) rush to find out why the District has been covering up this secret for years, but their investigations prove to have dangerous consequences for the rest of the Heroball community.
Heroball was originally scheduled to be released on August 15, 2008, but was pushed back to August 8 to avoid competition with Warner Bros.' Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The film was released to generally positive reviews from critics, who admired its story, themes, and setting. It earned $122.4 million worldwide over its $62 million budget, making it the ninth highest-grossing animated film of 2008. It was later released on DVD and Blu-ray on December 9, 2008.
